Washable Sidewalk Paint

Put a new spin on sidewalk chalk drawings by making your own washable sidewalk paint with your littles using a few simple ingredients from the kitchen!

Materials You’ll Need

  • Corn Starch
  • Water
  • Food Coloring
  • Muffin Pan
  • Paintbrushes
  • Tablespoon

Step 1: Mix Corn Starch & Water

Begin by scooping 1 full tablespoon of corn starch into each cup on the muffin pan. Add around 3-4 tablespoons of water to each. Mix each cup until smooth and it becomes like a thick soup. Add more water gradually if needed until you are satisfied with the consistency of the sidewalk paint. If you do not have corn starch, flour should also work. This project can get a bit messy depending on the age of your child, so I recommend doing all the mixing outside as well.

Step 2: Add Food Coloring

Add a few drops of food coloring to each cup of sidewalk paint and mix. The more food coloring you add the brighter the color will appear on the sidewalk. Allow your child to experiment mixing different drops of food coloring to create other colors (i.e. blue and yellow make green).

Step 3: Paint & Play!

When all your mixing is done, grab some paintbrushes and paint away! Add extra water for smoother strokes and to help blend colors. Paint will lighten upon drying. This sidewalk paint is also washable, so a good rain or spray with a hose will remove any trace and provide your littles with a fresh canvas for next time!
